A Safety Management System (SMS) is a coordinated system of standards, procedures and processes designed to promote continuous improvement in occupational health and safety.
Employers and workers are responsible for their own health and safety and the health and safety of others on, or near, the work site. The SMS promotes worker and employer cooperation in identifying and solving health and safety concerns at the worksite. OH&S programs also promote awareness of, and interest in health and safety.
In Alberta, employers are legally required to have an OH&S program that meets minimum legislative requirements.
A good safety program should incorporate legislative requirements, industry best practices, should be practical and user friendly and be tailored specific to your business. Programs that are uploaded into ISNetworld should be the same as those incorporated into your safety program .
